THE
COLYER HEREFORDS BREEDING PROGRAM |
ANNUAL
PRODUCTION SALE February 22, 2010 |
|
Prior to 1976, the Colyer ranch ran 700 straight bred Hereford commercial cattle. This foundation sets the standards for the basis of their breeding program. Cattle are summered in mountain pasture near Fairfield, Idaho. Yearling bulls go to grass without supplement and are ready to go to work as two-year olds. Our program goals are aimed at the industry basics: acceptable growth, good maternal strengths and an abundance of muscling with emphasis on carcass merit. Dedication to producing quality cattle for the industry is evidenced by the utilization of ultrasound technology and trying to increase the carcass merit in the herd. There are three major herd sires in the American Hereford Association carcass testing program. |
"Only eight bulls
have ever won Denver twice, and we have been fortunate to have three of
them." |

"Colyers work very hard to do their best to produce a product that will keep customers coming back," Bill says. "Guy has a great knack for matching the right bull with the right cow. He not only does well in the show ring, he understands that the final goal is to raise good, useful cattle for the commercial cattleman." |
